Indian Agriculture at Platinum Jubilee Year of Independence
As a nation, we have come far in last 74 years. Our success has been very significant in the Agriculture sector. From a near "Ship to Plate" economy in initial plan years to the seventh largest agriculture goods exporter, we have come a long way.India today, grows enough food for its citizens; yet food security for all citizens still remains a dream.
Though we have increased our production many folds, there has been a noticeable decline in nutritional density and agro-biodiversity since the advent green revolution.Rampant exploitation of natural resources too, has raised a question of sustainability. But on Independence day, WE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING SOLUTIONS and not problems.
Solution lies in the traditional wisdom of India & Sanatan Dharma. Organic & high-value agriculture is best suited for Indian conditions.
linking farms and crop decisions to market forces too will help transform Indian agriculture into a vibrant sector of the economy. Amendment of the essential commodities act has created new opportunities for farmers. I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Agriculture minister Shri Narendra Tomar ji and our Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi for this visionary step.
Agriculture is India's real advantage. Despite being second most populous country, India has more arable land per capita than any other country in the world. There is no crop in the world that can't grow in at least some parts of India. Possibilities for Indian farm sector are endless.
In the run up to the platinum jubilee of Independence, let's join hands to empower farmers and farm sector and help them realise their true potential.
Jai Jawan Jai Kisan!
